Children from many countries and cultures play together in our patio. Beautiful organic vegetables grow in the gardens we tend to every day, come rain or shine. Sourdough bread bakes in a cob oven lovingly built by dozens of hands. And above all hundreds of people learn and grow with us every year through our courses, volunteering opportunities, and co-living experiences.

Who are we? We’re Arterra Bizimodu, a self-organising co-housing community of 50 adults and children based in the beautiful region of Navarra, Spain.

We aspire to the dream of creating a space of Training for Transition, where we can learn, teach and share the tools we need for the new world we know is possible. And we’re already well on our way.

We work hard to make our dream reality, but also we know how to look after each other, to celebrate our successes, and to share our gifts with the wider world.  And we always remember our motto: another world is not only possible, but necessary.

It’s just four years since we took our first steps into the unknown, trusting in one another and in the power of community. And we’ve achieved a lot so far. In our very first summer of existence, we hosted 250 people for the Iberian Ecovillage Network conference – then the summer after, 400 at the Global Ecovillage Network conference! We house the offices of the Global Ecovillage Network and Ecohabitar, Spain’s most important eco-construction publication. We are an integral part of local, national and international networks of community and transition. We’re developing a social currency, regularly run courses and cook for hundreds of people, work in solidarity with local and national communities, and support each other and the wider world through processes of inner and outer transformation.

So it’s safe to say that we’ve proved we can do big things when we work together.

We want to do even bigger things. But to do them, we need your help.

It’s been a challenging year for Arterra. We’re recovering and renewing our home in an old seminary to make it sustainable and comfortable for all those who pass through here, and it’s not always easy. This huge building wasn’t built for sustainability, but that won’t stop us – we’re determined to make do with what we have, and create a thriving community hub that’s environmentally friendly, too.

This year our boiler broke down, and we’ve had to work quickly to make sure our families will be warm enough for the cold northern winter. Thanks to the hard work of our community to be financially sustainable, we were ready for the emergency – but we’ve got bigger plans ahead. Can you help us make them reality?

A step towards energy independence
We believe in living in harmony with one another – and with the planet.
We believe that the energy we use says a lot about our values. (That’s why our kitchen runs on biogas from our food scraps!)
We believe that communities should be able to support themselves energetically without relying on big corporations.

So we want to install solar panels to help us take the next step towards energy independence.
We’ve got a friendly expert ready to install the panels – now all we need is a little help from you: our friends, family, and community around the world.

This installation will halve our reliance on the grid, reduce our environmental impact, and allow us to focus on our vision of becoming an integral part of the transition of global culture to one of equity, self-realisation, peace, sustainability, and creativity for current and future generations. It will help us open our doors and share our vision with ever greater numbers of people through our courses, volunteering, and co-housing opportunities.

We also know that installing solar panels is just one step on the way to sustainable energy use, so part of the 25,000 raised will also go towards helping us reduce our consumption through making our building more energy-efficient, with better insulation and double glazing.

We believe in our vision, and that we have a part to play in making this world greener and happier for us and for future generations. If you do too, please support our campaign.

What’s in it for me?
We have an amazing package of rewards for each and every one of you who donates to our campaign. From an invitation to our launch party, to delicious products lovingly grown and made by us, from a team to install a biodigestor in your project to the chance to use our spaces for your event. However you choose to support us, you’ll know that we’re immensely grateful for your belief in a more beautiful world.

Need more information? Questions? Check out our website, our Facebook page, or email fran@gen-europe.org. We’ll be happy to help!
